In Cleveland

Jesse+Crain+Baltimore+Orioles+v+Chicago+White+p6Y1erkRCRMxMorning Kids.

First of all, I do apologize to you on where we are today. I looked wrong and thought we were at home when actually we are in Cleveland, Ohio. It is a four game series with the Indians. John Danks is on the mound today, Jake Peavy is scheduled for tomorrow provided he has not been traded. Sources are telling that it could be issues of paying out his current contract with the Sox to get his services.

At the time of opening this blog Jesse Crain has been traded to the Tampa Bay Rays for an undisclosed figure and a player to be named later. On behalf of my #chisoxsorority sisters, we wish him the very best, and safe travels to his new teams.

OK, grab a coffee and see you soon

WHY I Follow The Chicago White Sox

935307_639711536042446_2014875303_n     I thought this might help answer a few questions about WHY I follow the Chicago White Sox.

I am originally from Ohio in the USA, so that makes me an expat. I am a born and bred Buckeye and I will always hate that team up north. I moved to Australia in 2000 and rebuild my life after a series of events that saw my marriage fall apart, I grew apart from my kids and I was on the verge of a complete breakdown. I got very little in the way of hometown sports, baseball and gridiron(as the Aussie call it). I love my sports and always have, I needed those connections back to my roots and rediscovering baseball again was something I needed.

I knew all about the White Sox and some of their history but I wanted to know more. I had friend who were massive Sox fans and I finally decided to get on board. I read as  much as I can and research to learn about new players. I completely adore the movie “Field of Dreams” I guess I you could say I have been a Sox fan ever since the movie came out but it wasn’t until meeting the brother of a close mate of mine who was a massive fan of the boys. Gary had tickets each spring training to the Camelback Ranch and would take his boys for a few games.

Roughly three years ago Gary got dealt a really cruel blow, finding out that he had cancer. The sad fact was that the cancers he had were inoperable and he was in the fight of his life. We all rallied around Gary and did anything and everything to keep his spirits up as much as possible. We all started following the White Sox, keeping Gary updated and doing our best to keep his spirits up.

In 2011 as the new season was approaching we knew the end was coming for Gary. He was not able to go to the ranch that year but his boys went, and took Gary with them in spirit, taking plenty of pictures. All Gary kept sharing was he wanted to see opening day,Gary was too ill to actually go to the park but friends took a picture of Gary with them and posted from all places in the ballpark.

Just a few days later Gary lost his fight, I miss him so much and wish I could talk to him today. He was a teacher and taught me so much. I take what he taught me and I teach others who I see are struggling. I continue to love and follow the White Sox wishing that Gary was here to see the highs and lows of the season. It keeps Gary’s memory alive but it always keeps me connected to my roots.

My partner and I are planning a trip home to the USA and to spend some time in Chicago and attend some games. I can’t wait for the whole experience.

Yes, I live in Australia and Adelaide is my second home but I will ALWAYS love my Buckeyes and I will always look good in the black and White of the Chicago White Sox

See you at the ball park

Day Off Notes

HawkismsMorning,

Day off before heading out to a three game series with the Washington Nationals, then my home state of Ohio for another three game run with the Cleveland Indians and then its north to Toronto, Canada for a four game series with the Blue Jays before returning home for another 10 game home stand before a well deserved day off.

The boys are sitting on top of the American Central division with a 1/2 game lead over Kansas City and Minnesota and a full game ahead of Cleveland and Detroit.

Jake Peavy was awarded his Golden Glove on this past Sunday before the game. From what I understand they team will be wearing the 1983 team uniform on Sundays during the season as a tribute to the team winning the American League West and the first post season appearance since the 1959 World Series win.

Tyler Flowers hit the first home run of the season at his first at bat for the year.

Alex Rios is running hot with the bat at the moment: a .364 batting average, 8 hits, 4 runs,3 home runs, 5 RBIs, 3 walks and 2 stolen bases.

Gordon Beckham is also in the top 50 with: .333 batting average, 6 hits, 1 run, 1 RBI,

ON the pitching side of stats Jake Peavy has the best ERA now at 1.50 with Chris Sale right behind him at 1.84. Nate Jones and Jose Quintana are both is double digit ERA now but hoping that will come down as the season goes.

I have come to look forward to the games being called by Ken Harrelson and Steve Stone. Not only for their knowledge about the game and all but the Top Ten Hawkisms. They are on the back of the t-shirt that I wear when I am with you for the games. Number TWO is my favorite. “Duck Snort”

Living in Australia I have to watch most games on the internet but on the rare occasion I will get a televised game which will be on WEDNESDAY Morning Australian time I get the first game in the series. Can you tell I am excited about that…..hehehe

That is about it for now. Have a good day off, pack your bag and see you in Washington for the first game against the Nationals.

Waiting for Spring Training

If you have seen my other blog you know I am a major sports nut. Love my Buckeyes more than anything, but always loved a good baseball game. Being from Ohio, I always followed the Cincinnati Reds and the Cleveland Indians and hear about the other teams and all.

Later on I got to exploring the teams around and all I always looked at the so-called underdog team. Always hearing the jokes and cracks about the Chicago Cubs and would they ever win another pennant. It’s been 104 YEARS since they last won a series and I kind of secretly hope every year that maybe this will be there year.

I started following the Chicago White Sox a couple of years ago and love waiting to see the tweets start from the Camel back Ranch in Arizona appear on my feed. February 12 the pitchers and catchers report and the full squad must be in by February 17, with the first spring game on the 23 of February. I always love the newness of everything , the excitement and all. Learning how everyone is doing and how the boys will settle in. This also helps me not be quiet so homesick for that time of year.

For me the biggest highlight from last season was Philip Humber and his perfect game. That was amazing to watch it unfold and each inning the news coming across Twitter. I was able to find the final inning on You Tube and watch the final pitches. It was just unreal, even I was nervy and I knew what had happened. I got to watch Jake Peavy pitch a few times and he has nerves of steel.

Bear with me as I get this sorted out and all. Its going to be a great season and I can’t wait for that first pitch
