I am loving this team for 2017. They are going about business and getting things done, surprising a lot of people. Before the season started when Chris Sale and Adam Eaton were both traded, to be honest a bit of a shock but it has turned out for the best. We have some great new kids who are playing damn good ball. The keyboard doubters said that we needed to lose a bunch of games and get a better trade deal when the season was over. At the time of writing this the Sox were only half a game ahead of Cleveland, Minnesota and Detroit. Other divisions have started to sort themselves out some but I am secretly hoping that by the all-star break it is still this close.
On Tuesday the boys went to work in Kansas City with Jose Quintana in the office. Jose had not had a great start to the season but once he finds his feet its hard to stop him and Tuesday was a brilliant outing. He threw 8 shutout innings of ball with Anthony Swarzak locking up the office.
The Sox scored 2 in the second, third and sixth innings for a 6 to 0 score line.
It was time for Robin Venture to leave and his replacement of Rick Renteria, in my book has been part of what was needed. Rick has brought a new excitement to the dugout and he is one of the first to greet the boys after scoring runs. He is also there when the starting pitcher is done for the game. Giving words of encouragement no doubt.
The injury list has not been updated as of today. 5 pitchers on there with what is looking like minor things to deal with. Getting them all healthy will be the challenge but then what do you do with them once they are back playing?
Charlie Tilson is our only other player in the list, from the stress fracture that happened in spring training. As of April 23 he was out of the moon boot and able to start load bearing activities. I really hope we get the chance to see what he can do.
I really think this is going to be an interesting season and I cant wait to see how things play out.
This group is going to surprise all of us.
I have no doubt.
Game 3 in the series with Kansas City would see Jose Quintana heading to the office. His last couple of outings were rough, not pitching well with a lack of run support. The pitcher sets the tone of the game with his first couple of pitches and if he is not on that night, I think its a flow on effect. Today would be different. Jose Q would be hot from the 1st pitch he threw.
The Sox would waste no time getting runs on the board in the bottom of the 1st when, Tyler Saladino opens the pond with a single, moved to 2nd on a Melky ground out to 2nd and stole 3rd. Jose Abreu with a double to left getting Tyler home for a 1 to 0 Sox lead, Todd Frazier with a double of his own getting Abreu home for a 2 to 0 Sox lead.
The pitchers took over from the 2nd to the bottom of the 4th.
The top of the 5th, saw K.C finally get on the board, Escobar scoring on a Bonifacio single to center. Sox 2 and Royals 1
The 6th inning would see the Royals tie things at 2 all but in the home half of the inning the Sox would take back the lead when with Melky on the pond thanks to a single, Avi Garcia blasting a monster home run to center giving the Sox a 4 to 2 lead.
Bottom of the 7th and Leury Garcia, decides to show Avi that if you can hit a home run so can I and Leury did to right field for a Sox 5 to 2 lead.
Nate Jones in for the 8th inning taking over from Tommy Kahnle. Dan Jennings had started shutting down the office from Jose Quintana in the top of the 7th.
David Robertson came in the top of the 9th inning to lock up the office for the night
White Sox 5 and Kansas City 2
The boys have a day off before the league leading Tigers are in for a weekend series before its time to pack the travel back for a 6 game road trip with stops in Kansas City and Baltimore.
Dylan Covey got the office keys today for the 2nd game of the series.
The Royals opened the scoring in the top of the 1st when Perez singled and Cain scored for a 1 to 0 K.C lead
The Sox tied the score in the bottom of the 2nd when, with Avi Garcia, Matt Davidson and Omar Narvaez all on the pond, Leury Garcia with a single to left brings Avi home for a 1 all ball game.
Kansas City took the lead again in the top of the 3rd 2 to 1 but in the bottom of half of the inning chicago tied it back up, Tim Anderson scoring on a Todd Frazier Sac Fly to center. Close of 3rd inning the score is tied at 2 a piece.
Home half of the 4th, the Sox would take the lead back, Narvaez doubled to right, Leury Garcia doubled to bring Omar home for a 3 to 2 lead, Anderson single brought home Leury for a 4 to 2 lead.
Bottom of the 5th, Sox extended their lead, Jose Abreu scored on a Frazier double, (5 to 2 Sox), On a Sanchez triple, Frazier scored taking the lead to 6 to 2 in favor of the Sox.
Home half of the 7th, the Sox added 2 more when, with Frazier, Avi Garcia and Sanchez on the pond, Narvaez with a single to right, Frazier and Avi Garcia home for an 8 to 2 lead.
Two more runs in the bottom of the 8th would see, Melky on the pond and Frazier doubled bringing Melky home, Avi with a double of his own getting Todd home for a 10 to 2 Sox lead.
Top of the 9th would have the Royals add 3 more runs but it was all they could get.
Sox 10 and Kansas City 5
Miguel Gonzalez was in the office putting his 2 and 0 record on the line. Facing Jason Vargas from the Royals.
Bottom of the 2nd saw Matt Davidson with a solo shot to center for a 1 to 0 Sox lead. The Royals would score their only run in the bottom of the inning for a 1 all game.
The bottom of the 3rd the Sox would take the lead when, Timmy Anderson scored on a Jose Abreu single. 2 to 1 sox
Melky Cabrera would smack an RBI line drive to center scoring, Anderson and Leury Garcia for a 4 to 1 Sox lead.
The bottom of the 6th would see the Sox scoring almost at will tacking on 8 runs, With Avi Garcia already on base, Matt Davidson doubles to right getting Avi home, (5 to 1 Sox). Anderson’s fly to center would see Matt Davidson get home and L.Garcia stopping on 2nd (6 to 1 Sox), Tyler Saladino with a triple brings home, L. Garcia and Anderson for an 8 to 1 Sox lead. Todd Frazier joined the run fest with a double moving Jose Abreu to 3, Saladino and Melky both cross home plate for a 10 to 1 Sox lead. Matt Davidson back to the plate for another shot, this time kissing a single to left, Frazier and Abreu heading for home ticking the scoreboard over to 12 to 1 Sox thumping.
Miguel Gonzalez took care of the office till the 8th inning when Anthony Swarzak got the keys to close up the office for the night.
Before the game today the Sox are just 1 game out of first.
The injury list is not playing favorites as we have a few pitchers on the list; Juan Minaya has been throwing to batters and he should be heading to a rehab assignment anytime. jake Petricka is being re-evaluated as of April 23, Zack Putnam has right elbow inflammation, spending the next 10 days on the list. Carlos Rodon has been playing catch with Coach Cooper. James Shields is on the 10 day list recovering from a Right lat strain. Charlie Tilson on the 60 day list still working on increasing load bearing activities.
Welcome to the Fox Den Sports Desk. Kendria is joining me for games 2 and 3. I wanted to go back and take a closer look at some of the questions that Kendria posed yesterday.
This should be an interesting game, Cricket, Corey Kluber (Indians) against Jose Quintana (White Sox). What are your thoughts of the match up??. . . . Corey against Jose Quintana is a good even match up. Q will have to hold his nerve and hope that the offense can lend a hand.
Did you hear Jose Abreu is one of only 7 with 100 RBI’s in their first 3 seasons? Do you think Cannon (Abreu) can do it again? . . . . Yes Canon should have no issues hitting that 100 RBI mark again, once he gets his bat really going.
Avisail Garcia is one of the top hitters so far this season. Right now he is batting a .400. Cricket, any thoughts?…….Avi was still finding his feet last year after his shoulder surgery. I have been blown away but the work he did in the offseason. He has lost weight but put on muscle and that should help with the power of belting home runs.
Kendria, I wanted to ask you about your team’s injury list, Cody Anderson is out for the year with just having Tommy John surgery. How will that affect the rest of the staff gong forward? Charlie Tilson is our only long-term injury listing right now. He had a stress fracture back in Spring training and is slowly working on building his playing activities.
The Indians took game 2 with a 7 to 0 shutout.
Game 3 had Derek Holland facing off against Danny Salazar. whats your thoughts on todays match up Kendria?
The Sox wearing their throwback 80’s uniforms, and Cleveland in their gray away pants with navy jerseys.
The Sox open the bottom of the 1st, Timmy Anderson with a double to center for the first hit of the game. Tyler Saladino with a shallow single moving Tim to 3rd. Melky with a sac fly gets Timmy home for a 1 to 0 Sox lead. Jose Abreu with a single to right, Saladino scored and Abreu pulls into 3rd thanks to the error by Almonte. (Kendria, what happened there, a rare mistake by Cleveland) Sox 2 and Indians 0, Todd Frazier walked, Leury Garcia singled to bring home Abreu for a 3 to 0 Sox lead.
Top of the 4th and Lindo oped the Indians scoring with a solo home run to left. Sox 3 and Indians 1
Bottom of the 5th, Sox half of the inning, Abreu reached 1st after being hit by a pitch, Frazier struck out, Avi with a double gets Abreu home for a 4 to 1 Sox lead, Avi reaches 3rd on a throwing error. That is 2 errors for the game by Cleveland, any issues you can spot, Kendria?
The Sox add another run in the bottom of the 6th on the 3rd throwing error by Cleveland when Melky singles to left, getting Narvaez home (catcher dropped the ball) , Melky is able to pull into 2nd. Sox 5 and Indians 1
Bottom of the 8th see the Sox add their final run of the game, with May and Anderson already on the pond, Abreu is safe after a throwing error, May scored and Anderson stopping at 3rd, White Sox 6 and Indians 1
Top of the 9th and the Sox send closer David Robertson to the office, Chisenhall already on base, Kipnis walked, Robertson with a wild pitch and Chisenhall speeds home for a 6 to 2 Sox lead. Robbie gets Santana swinging to lock up the office.
White Sox 6 and Indians 2
**The White Sox will host the Kansas City Royals for 3 games before a day off.
**The Indians have a day off before hosting the Houston Astros
Thanks again to Kendria for joining me for this series and we will do it again when the 2 teams meet again this season.
It was all quiet until the top of the 3rd inning when Avi Garcia stepped to the plate. The guy is hot and getting hotter smacking a solo shot over the center field fence for a 1 to 0 Sox lead.
Gonzo had the perfect game going until the Yankee’s spoiled it in the bottom of the 5th with a single to the shortstop
The bottom of the 7th saw Avi Garcia step to the plate again but this time with runners on the pond belting a 3 run homer to left center, extending the Sox lead 4 to 0.
David Robertson came in to close the office but got in some trouble, with 2 outs walked in a run for a 4 to 1 Sox lead. Robbie got the next Yankee’s batter to hit into a double play for the final out.
The series decider is set with, Dylan Covey listed as the probable starter for the Sox.
The Sox are sitting 1.5 games out of 1st with a record of 7 wins, 6 losses.
I know that Kendria over at Weaver’s Sports Center https://weaversfootballblog.wordpress.com/2017/04/13/indians-vs-white-sox-deja-vu/ will cringe when reading this, she loves her Indians but also is a Sox Fan.
The Sox wore their gray away uniforms today while, the Indians wore their all white uniforms.

The final run of the game scored by the Indians was a Yan Gomes solo home run for a 10 to 4 Sox lead. The Sox were able to shut down any run try by the Indians in the bottom of the 9th.
The Indians are getting the litter box ready for the Tigers to visit who are currently sitting in first place.
The Sox are heading to Minnesota to have a snack on some Twinkies (Minnesota Twins)
James Shields in the office for the first time this year. We all know how much of a disaster James was last season. Hoping this year is different. The boys are in white pants with their black jerseys.
Jake Petricka on the 10 disabled list. Tommy Kahnle replacing him.
James struck out the side.
**Top of 2nd and the Tigers on the board with a solo shot for a 1 to 0 lead.

Happy 2017 Opening Day
Thanks to the weather, postponement was in order.
Jose Quintana would make his 1st opening day appearance. Facing off against Justin Verlander would be a tall ask.
*Sox would get on the board in the home half of the 1st when Tyler Saladino would score on a Melky Cabrera double. Sox – 1 and Tigers – 0
*Top of the 2nd would see Q get burned for 2 home runs with runners on, at the close of the inning it was Detroit 5 and White Sox 1

Final Score – White Sox 3 and Tigers 6
James Shields is listed as the probable starter.
Until our boys of summer return home to Rate Field.
It has been interesting watching the scores come through and all. they have done well and the new players seem to be settling in and finding their way.
It has taken me awhile to open th is blog. I was really disappointed in some so-called fans. How angry and all they were. Everyone got their wish, Chris Sale is gone, Boston and at some point we will see him during the year. I really hope he does well and gets that World Series he has always dreamed of. Another line I hear was go out and lose every game so we get great draft picks. WEll, the boys got wind of that one and were not really happy. I read that they are positive and they are there to win.
We said goodbye to Brett Lawrie. His injury from last season had not healed over the off-season and he was not able to play at all in spring training. Even I am not sure if he will be picked up by opening day. I have a feeling his career may be over.
Charlie Tilson, who we adore is in a moon boot with no pressure on his leg for 3 weeks. Last year it was his hammy and now this. He has been shut now until further notice and they are looking at replacements in centerfield.
Jose Quintana, Nate Jones, David Robertson and Miguel Gonzalez are all off playing in the Baseball World Classic. As of the writing of this all are still active with their respective country teams.
Even I have a feeling this will be a different year. So much has changed and everyone is excited. The young kids coming in are happy and learning. One of the new kids has always wanted to play with Jose Abreu and he will get his chance this year.
Fingers crossed injuries can stay away and pitching is good, there might be a new contender in the American League Central
Chicago White Sox
