To Toronto to be exact. I was not sure what to expect on this part of the trip. The boys have been playing better than a lot of people expected but when you wake up to the news its 7 to 0 in the second inning in the Sox favor, trust me, you pay attention.
Jose Quintana in the office today and he so needed a good outing and some quality run support.
Opening the 1st inning — Alen Hanson who comes to the Sox from Pittsburg opened the pond with a single and stole second, Melky walked. Jose Abreu with a triple got Melky and Alen home for a 2 to 0 sox lead. Todd Frazier with a sac fly to right brought Jose home for a 3 to 0 Sox lead. Matt Davidson with a double to left, who got home thanks to a Tim Anderson single for a 4 to 0 Sox lead.
Top of 2nd would see the score blow out when, with Hanson and Sanchez already on the pond, Melky with a double to bring the boys home for a 6 to 0 lead. Jose got in on the double fest with 1 of his own getting Melky home for a 7 to 0 lead.
Bottom of 2 would see the Blue Jays finally on the board with a solo home run, Sox 7 and Jays 1

Top of 5th with Narvaez and Hanson already on the pond Melky with a screaming shot to left for an 11 to 2 White Sox lead.
The Jays would add 2 more in the 9th but Jake Petricka would hold things and lock up the office for a monster 11 to 4 Sox win.
Jose Quintana with a much-needed and confidence boosting win.

Miguel had a no-hitter going until the top of the 7th inning when Alex Avila spoiled it with a single to right. Detroit added 2 more in the top of the 8th. David Robertson in to close the office taking over from Chris Beck.
**With the day’s events the Sox are sitting only 4.5 games out of first with Cleveland and Minnesota sitting above them.
**The Boston Red Sox arrive for the Sox Draw battle tomorrow, the first visit of Chris Sale since his trade in the off-season. He will be facing Jose Quintana in the office.

A day off before welcoming the Tigers for a weekend series for Homecoming Weekend. The double-header on Friday is a make up game from April 5. Game one starts at 4:10 chicago time.
May 29th is the start of the Sox Draw battle and the 1st visit by Chris Sale since the trade.
I am loving this team for 2017. They are going about business and getting things done, surprising a lot of people. Before the season started when Chris Sale and Adam Eaton were both traded, to be honest a bit of a shock but it has turned out for the best. We have some great new kids who are playing damn good ball. The keyboard doubters said that we needed to lose a bunch of games and get a better trade deal when the season was over. At the time of writing this the Sox were only half a game ahead of Cleveland, Minnesota and Detroit. Other divisions have started to sort themselves out some but I am secretly hoping that by the all-star break it is still this close.
On Tuesday the boys went to work in Kansas City with Jose Quintana in the office. Jose had not had a great start to the season but once he finds his feet its hard to stop him and Tuesday was a brilliant outing. He threw 8 shutout innings of ball with Anthony Swarzak locking up the office.
The Sox scored 2 in the second, third and sixth innings for a 6 to 0 score line.
It was time for Robin Venture to leave and his replacement of Rick Renteria, in my book has been part of what was needed. Rick has brought a new excitement to the dugout and he is one of the first to greet the boys after scoring runs. He is also there when the starting pitcher is done for the game. Giving words of encouragement no doubt.
The injury list has not been updated as of today. 5 pitchers on there with what is looking like minor things to deal with. Getting them all healthy will be the challenge but then what do you do with them once they are back playing?
Charlie Tilson is our only other player in the list, from the stress fracture that happened in spring training. As of April 23 he was out of the moon boot and able to start load bearing activities. I really hope we get the chance to see what he can do.
I really think this is going to be an interesting season and I cant wait to see how things play out.
This group is going to surprise all of us.
I have no doubt.
Welcome to the Fox Den Sports Desk. Kendria is joining me for games 2 and 3. I wanted to go back and take a closer look at some of the questions that Kendria posed yesterday.
This should be an interesting game, Cricket, Corey Kluber (Indians) against Jose Quintana (White Sox). What are your thoughts of the match up??. . . . Corey against Jose Quintana is a good even match up. Q will have to hold his nerve and hope that the offense can lend a hand.
Did you hear Jose Abreu is one of only 7 with 100 RBI’s in their first 3 seasons? Do you think Cannon (Abreu) can do it again? . . . . Yes Canon should have no issues hitting that 100 RBI mark again, once he gets his bat really going.
Avisail Garcia is one of the top hitters so far this season. Right now he is batting a .400. Cricket, any thoughts?…….Avi was still finding his feet last year after his shoulder surgery. I have been blown away but the work he did in the offseason. He has lost weight but put on muscle and that should help with the power of belting home runs.
Kendria, I wanted to ask you about your team’s injury list, Cody Anderson is out for the year with just having Tommy John surgery. How will that affect the rest of the staff gong forward? Charlie Tilson is our only long-term injury listing right now. He had a stress fracture back in Spring training and is slowly working on building his playing activities.
The Indians took game 2 with a 7 to 0 shutout.
Game 3 had Derek Holland facing off against Danny Salazar. whats your thoughts on todays match up Kendria?
The Sox wearing their throwback 80’s uniforms, and Cleveland in their gray away pants with navy jerseys.
The Sox open the bottom of the 1st, Timmy Anderson with a double to center for the first hit of the game. Tyler Saladino with a shallow single moving Tim to 3rd. Melky with a sac fly gets Timmy home for a 1 to 0 Sox lead. Jose Abreu with a single to right, Saladino scored and Abreu pulls into 3rd thanks to the error by Almonte. (Kendria, what happened there, a rare mistake by Cleveland) Sox 2 and Indians 0, Todd Frazier walked, Leury Garcia singled to bring home Abreu for a 3 to 0 Sox lead.
Top of the 4th and Lindo oped the Indians scoring with a solo home run to left. Sox 3 and Indians 1
Bottom of the 5th, Sox half of the inning, Abreu reached 1st after being hit by a pitch, Frazier struck out, Avi with a double gets Abreu home for a 4 to 1 Sox lead, Avi reaches 3rd on a throwing error. That is 2 errors for the game by Cleveland, any issues you can spot, Kendria?
The Sox add another run in the bottom of the 6th on the 3rd throwing error by Cleveland when Melky singles to left, getting Narvaez home (catcher dropped the ball) , Melky is able to pull into 2nd. Sox 5 and Indians 1
Bottom of the 8th see the Sox add their final run of the game, with May and Anderson already on the pond, Abreu is safe after a throwing error, May scored and Anderson stopping at 3rd, White Sox 6 and Indians 1
Top of the 9th and the Sox send closer David Robertson to the office, Chisenhall already on base, Kipnis walked, Robertson with a wild pitch and Chisenhall speeds home for a 6 to 2 Sox lead. Robbie gets Santana swinging to lock up the office.
White Sox 6 and Indians 2
**The White Sox will host the Kansas City Royals for 3 games before a day off.
**The Indians have a day off before hosting the Houston Astros
Thanks again to Kendria for joining me for this series and we will do it again when the 2 teams meet again this season.
Happy 2017 Opening Day
Thanks to the weather, postponement was in order.
Jose Quintana would make his 1st opening day appearance. Facing off against Justin Verlander would be a tall ask.
*Sox would get on the board in the home half of the 1st when Tyler Saladino would score on a Melky Cabrera double. Sox – 1 and Tigers – 0
*Top of the 2nd would see Q get burned for 2 home runs with runners on, at the close of the inning it was Detroit 5 and White Sox 1
*Top of the 4th and Q would get taken for a solo shot giving the Tigers a 6 to 1 lead.
*Bottom of the 4th Melky with a nasty double to left center, getting to 3rd of a Verlander wild pitch. Jose Abreu grounding to short gets Melky home cutting the Tigers lead 6 to 2
The bottom of the 9th and the boys could only manage 1 more run before they were shut down for the night.
Final Score – White Sox 3 and Tigers 6
James Shields is listed as the probable starter.
If I could have been anywhere today it would have been in Chicago at the park to have the final game experience. I have listened to people complain all year about why bother going. Go for all of us who can’t go, share with us your favorite seat, what do you like to eat at the park. There are a lot of Sox fans here in Australia who would love to be able to go. We get up at all hours of the night here to be able to watch and try and be a part of things.
I choose to look at things a little different, I see the positives. Sure I am frustrated and wished it had been a better season but there are pieces that did work and with the right foundation we can be in the mix next year.
*Injuries — boy did they bite us and hard. It seems like center field was cursed for a long time. Losing Austin Jackson, and Charlie Tilson both to season ending injuries was really tough, both are on the road to recovery and I hope we get to see them next year. Zack Duke and Jake Petricka with their injuries really took a lot of stability out of the bull pen.
*Adam Eaton – WOW, what an amazing season in right, Baserunners learned and early that if your gong to challenge him , most likely he will throw you out. Congrats on being a Dad.
*Brett Lawrie – I miss your excitement and silliness. Your energy was missed and I hope that you will be back next year, you had some amazing plays and I just sat here at my desk and shook my head as wondered how did you do it.
*J.B Shuck, Tyler Saladino, Carlos Sanchez – Thank You for stepping up in a moments notice, you all have grown as players and I really hope we get to see you again next season.
*Chris Sale, Miguel Gonzalez, Jose Quintana, Nate Jones, David Robertson – This group of gentleman to me is our core of the pitching staff. Sure there have been those crappy moments but there has also been moments of brilliance and I hope you stay together.
*Hawk , Steve and Jason — Thanks for all the call of the game, learning a bit with Sox math. I have even developed a few of my own Hawkisms for fun. Not sure if Hawk will go another season. If you decide not to have another year with us Hawk then “THANKS” for the fun and the knowledge you have shared with us.
Chris Sale is off to the showers leaving Juan Minaya the keys to the office, Jacob Turner on way to the office for the final outing for him this season. Chris Beck found the office keys under the rosin bag. Chris just turned off the office lights in the visitors half of the 9th, Chris has the door closed (2 outs) Chris just locked the door with that strike out. ( 3 outs)
Final Record 78 and 84
**THANK YOU to all of you who have taken the time to leave comments, feed back and all. Thanks to my Daughter Kendria who has come on board over at https://weaversfootballblog.wordpress.com/ for helping to cover games so I could have a bit of a life at times.
A Year with the Chicago White Sox is taking a break but will be back with winter news as needed
Have a safe winter and see you
April 3, 2017 for White Sox Baseball
Game 4 in the series and it is the last outing for Jose Quintana for the season. It has been a real pleasure to watch him work. Thank you Jose for a great season.
Chris Sale will pitch on Sunday. Tyler Saladino has been shut down for the season(MRI on the back). Miguel allowed 3 hits and walked no one last night, was 2 outs shy of going a full game for only the second time in his career.
Jose with a 1,2,3 inning, the first of many tonight I hope.
Adam Eaton with a single to open the pond. Spanky is safe at 2nd but he was called out and it is being challenged.
Jose gave up the dreaded leadoff walk to open the 2nd. Rays single gets the runner (leadoff walk) home and it’s 1 to 0 Rays lead.
Jason Morneau with a single to left through the shift.
Todd Frazier with the double kill to close the inning.
Jose Q gives up a home run for a 2 to 0 Rays lead.
Alex Avila on the pond with a walk.
Tim Anderson with a stand up triple, with 1 out in the bottom of the 6th. Melky ground to 2nd but Timmy scores and it’s a 2 to 1 Rays lead.
Juan Minaya got the keys as Jose headed to the showers.
Rays add another run for a 3 to 1 lead, Juan hit a Rays batter, Dan Jennings with the pond loaded, one home for a 4 to 1 Rays lead, add another for a 5 to 1 Rays lead.
Carlos Sanchez with a 2 run homer cutting the lead to 5 to 3 Rays. Leury Garcia with a surprise double, its raining.
Back from the rain delay, 35 minutes.
Tommy Kahnle in the office – He got the keys just as the rain delay started.
Bottom of 9th and Justin on with a single, Jason Coats in to run for Justin. Lights out with Todd striking out (1 out), Jason safe at 2nd, Alex on that strike out shut the door, (2 outs) Carlos was not able to smack that ball out of the park, Rays lock the door,
White Sox — 3 and Rays — 5
We don’t have much time left with the boys and I want to enjoy them while they are still playing.
Adam Eaton is out on concession protocol and could return on Monday.
Q got himself with loaded bases and then out of the mess, He has had to do that a few times this year.
This season has been a mess from the word go, starting with the pitching rotation. In my book that sets the tone for the season. Gong to the bullpen before the 5th or 6th inning also puts alot of stress on the boys. some of them having to pitch longer than they are due to .
It really is time for Robin to go. We need fresh eyes, someone who can inspire the guys and give better support. Maybe he does and we can’t see it but it’s time for new blood at the helm
I wanted to listen to Hawk for the last few away games. I know a lot of you are not fans but I have learned so much about baseball and heard some great stories. I even write in Hawkisms, and created a couple of my own. Not sure if he will be back next season but I wanted to have those last few games with him just incase.
Bottom of 2 and the Indians get on the board 2 to 1. Jose is in a world of hurt at 50 pitches already. Chris Beck up and getting loose.
Top of the 5th saw Leury Garcia with a single, stole second and got to 3rd on a mis throw into center. Melky with a single getting Leury home for a 3 to 1 Sox lead.
Top of 6th and Todd Frazier puts it on the board for a 4 to 1 Sox lead.
We have good piece, losing Brett Lawrie, the curse of the center field, losing Charlie Tilson and Austin Jackson. Wonder if everyone had stayed healthy what might have happened.
On the way to the showers Jose slipped the keys in Tommy Kahnle ball cap, You could hear him yell when he put his hat on, “Damn Q that hurt”
Tommy is done, leaving the keys with Robin for Dan Jennings
Top of the 8th — J.B Shuck in to pitch run for Justin Morneau, hoping to see J.B next season. (yes, I am a fan partly due to him being a Buckeye). He is good in the outfield. If he could get some good consistent playing time things would improve. (He had a hot streak going with the bat but with the outfield moving around he lost time)
Todd is safe at first, the double clutch cost the out. Avi with a single gets J. B home for a 5 to 1 Sox lead. Carlos with a single getting Todd home for a 6 to 1 Sox lead. Leury Garcia with a single of his own to get Todd home for a 7 to 1 lead. Carlos Sanchez home on a wild pitch for an 8 to 1 lead.
Bottom of 8th and Nasty Nate Jones in the office. What a come back he has had. The back issues and then had to go through Tommy John. I think he is actually better now then he was before, his confidence and control is amazing. Working in some ways as a set up for David Robertson.
David Robertson finally turns the office lights out (1 out), Robbie hit the batter (by no means did he mean to ), Robbie with 2 on the pond, Finally Robbie shuts the door with that second out. (like the beard back), with another strikeout Robbie locks the door.
Final Score is White Sox – 8 and Indians – 1
It is game 2 and Jose Quintana is in the office tonight. the world record was set
Adam Eaton opens the Sox hitting with a single, Tim Anderson and Melky get Adam to 3rd, a single by Jose Abreu gets Adam home for a 1 to 0 Sox lead.
Indians tie up the score at 1 all in the top of the 2nd.
It’s the bottom of the 4th and it’s been the pitcher’s dueling. Score is still 1 to 1.
In the bottom of the 6th with the pond full, Cannon with a single getting Adam home for a 2 to 1 Sox lead. (Adam reached the pond with a walk, Timmy singled, Melky with a single to load the pond) Todd Frazier with a single getting Timmy and Melky home. It’s 4 to 1 Sox, Avi with a single getting Cannon home for a 5 to 1 Sox lead. Carlos Sanchez with a triple getting Todd and Avi home for a 7 to 1 Sox lead. Spanky with a ground ruled double and it’s 8 to 1 Sox lead.
Chris Beck with the Keys to close out the game, and he is able to lock up the office door with 37 pitches.
Final Score Sox — 8 and Indians — 1
