Sox Open a 9 Game Home Stand

brett - CopyIt is the start of a 9 day run at home. With the addition of James Shields things should get interesting in the pitching rotation. Here is hoping that he is the stability that is finally needed. Jerry Sands has been DFA to make room for James Shields and Melky returns today.

**First double play of the night

Bottom of the 1st and Adam Eaton earns a walk to 1st, Austin Jackson with a walk, Jose Abreu RBI single, gets Eaton home for a 1 to 0 Sox lead. Melky with a single that loads the pond. With J.B Shuck walk to first, it is a 2 to 0 Sox lead.

The Nats open the scoring on the top of the 2nd, it’s 2 to 1 Sox, RBI ground out has the game tied at 2 all.

Eaton hit by a pitch and on the way to first. Jackson with a single, with Eaton’s speed he’s at 3rd, Abreu with s  Sac Fly and with Eaton’s speed its 3 to 2, YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD, YES, thanks Todd. it’s 5 to 2 Sox lead, this played out in the bottom of the second.

Nat’s on a 2 run homer take the score to 5 to 4 in the top of the 4th

Sox Infield got the rundown thanks to Latos catching the Nat’s Runner.

Dan Jennings takes over in the office in the 5th inning. 2 run double and the Nat’s take the lead 6 to 5. Jennings is done making way for Matt Albers. A 2 run single makes it 8 to 5.

Zack Duke in the office. Sac Fly makes it a 9 to 5 Nationals but Duke hits the batter and loads the plate again. Duke just walked a run in taking the score to 10 to 5, Matt Purke is getting ready in the pen.

Matt Purke is now in the office for the Sox, it’s the top of the 7th. Bottom of the inning and Abreu is on with a single, Frazier with a walk and at this point no outs.

Bottom of the 9th – Jackson with a single, Jackson moved to second on a wild pitch and Frazier at first thanks to a walk.

Final Score – Nationals 10 and White Sox 5

**Post game thoughts — the pitch couldn’t get it done tonight. Mat Latos walked the first batter in 5 pitches.  You know when that happens it will not be great. You need your starters to go 5 plus innings. It saves the bullpen. Matt Purke was amazing coming in and doing his best to shut the Nationals down.

Tyler Saladino with single mistakes that cost, giving the Nat’s runs that should not of happened.

James Shields in the office for his first start tomorrow
