White Sox Series with the LA Angels
It was supposed to be a three game series but with Storms on June 30, the game was postponed til July 1. A double-header opened with Hector Noesi on the mound for the Sox against Garrett Richards for the Angels.
LA Angels – 8 and the White Sox – 4
The highlight for the Sox was in the first inning when Jose Abreu hit home run #26, with Adam Eaton and Gordon Beckham on board for a 3 to 0 Sox lead.
The Angels had 3 stars of their own in the home run department with Mike Trout, Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton. Hamilton’s homer in the 7th inning, gave the Angels a 6 – 3 lead.
The ninth inning saw the Angels add their final run for the game when, A Pujols was safe at first, due to an error by Alexei Ramirez, at shortstop. Hamilton’s single to right moved Pujols to third. Erick Aybar grounded into a fielders choice to first getting, Pujols home for their 8th run of the game.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Sox made one last run trying to catch the Angels when, Paul Konerko singled to center, Abreu walked, moving Konerko to second, Adam Dunn walked to load the bases, Ramirez grounded into a double play but Konerko was able to home, Dayan Viciedo closed the game with a ground out to third.
The Angels would start the scoring run in the second inning and would never look back. The close of the second inning saw the angels have a 3 – 0 lead. In the bottom half of the inning Conor Gillaspie would smack his first homer of the season to right field, Ramirez was already on base having been hit by a pitch and a safe steal at second. At the close of the inning the Angels had a 3 – 2 lead.
Kole Calhoun’s fifth inning home run with Grant Green already on base would extend their lead to 5 – 2. The Angels would add another run in the top of the sixth and in the home half of the inning, the Sox would tack on 3 more runs when, Ramirez would get on with a double, Gillaspie would single getting Ramirez home, Viciedo would hit a home run to left with Gillaspie on, cutting the Angels lead to just one run 6 – 5.
The Angels would add their final two runs when, Calhoun would open the inning with a walk, Trout would also take a walk, Pujols flied out to right , moved the baserunners up. Hamilton’s intentional walk would load the bases. Howie Kendrick would walk bringing home, Calhoun home for a 7 to 5 Angels lead. Which would be the final score of game two.
The Angels will take a 2 – 0 game series lead into the final game.
John Danks against Tyler Skaggs
It was a pitchers duel until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Sox got on the board when, Adam Eaton reached on an infield single, to open the inning. Beckham doubled to center to move Eaton to third. Abreu walked, Ramirez’s single to center got both Eaton and Beckham home for a 2 – 0 Sox lead.
The top of the seventh the Angels got one back when David Freese homered to right to cut the Sox lead to 2 – 1. The top of the eighth Hamilton took a Danks pitch to right for the second home run of the game. Tying the score at 2 a piece.
It would be the bottom of the ninth inning with Alejandro De Aza on third, Gillaspie on first, Leury Garcia hit a shallow single to left, getting De Aza home for a walk off 3 – 2 win.
The Sox have a much-needed day off tomorrow before welcoming the Seattle Mariners for the 4th of July series, then the Red Sox come for another battle of the Sock drawer, and the Sox make a three game trip to Cleveland before the All Star Break .
