Closing Game with the Detroit Tigers
The final game of the series saw Chris Sale (ERA 2.06, 5 – 0 winning record) against Max Scherzer (ERA 3.38, 7 wins and 2 losses on the season). Jake Petricka would come on the eighth inning to take over for Sale. Daniel Webb took over in the mound office in the top of the ninth inning.

The pitchers duel was broken in the top of the fifth inning when Victor Martinez smacked a home run to left, giving the Tigers the early lead at 1 – 0.
It took the top of the eighth inning before any more action was seen and it was the Tigers adding two more runs when,Bryan Holaday got things started with a single, Eugenio Suarez moved Holaday to second on a single of his own to left. Rajai Davis grounded to third moving the base runners over. Miguel Caberea reached on an infield single which got, Holaday and Suarez home for a Tigers 3 – 0 lead.
The top of the ninth the Tigers added another run when Don Kelly scored on a Holaday single to left. Kelly reached on a single to left and safely stole second. Score at the close was Tigers – 4 and Sox – 0.
