Game one with Detroit at The Cell

Detroit Tigers  33 – 27  (17 – 12  Away)

The White Sox coming off a 3 game loss against the Anaheim Angels opened a home series with league leading Detroit Tigers.

The Tigers arrived at The Cell with a four and a half game lead.

The Sox would send Hector Noesi with an ERA of 5.40 into battle against Rick Porcello who carried in an ERA of 4.04. Coming of a great last outing for Hector which gave a world of confidence, he would manage 5 strike outs and one walk in this outing. Scott Downs, Jake Petricka, Zach Putnam and Ronald Belisario would join Noesi in the mound office to help secure a much-needed win.

 

The Sox lined up Adam Eaton, Gordon Beckham, Conor Gillaspie,Jose Abreu, Adam Dunn, Alexei Ramirez, Dayan Viciedo, Alejandro De Aza, Tyler Flowers to do battle against the Tigers.

The Sox opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when Eaton started off with a triple to left. Beckham’s single to right got Eaton home for a 1 – 0 lead. The boys added another in the bottom of the third when, Flowers opened the inning with a walk, Beckham’s double moved Flowers to third, who then crossed home thanks to Gillaspie’s single to center. Score at the close of the inning was in favor of the Sox – 2 and Tigers – 0.

Miguel Cabrera got the Tigers on the board on the top of the fourth inning with a home run to left, cutting the Sox lead to 2 – 1 at the close of the inning. The top of the fifth inning Eugenio Suarez tied the score with a home run to left. Close of the inning it was a 2 all ball game.

Home part of the fifth inning the Sox took back the lead when, Beckham opened the scoring with a ground ruled double to left. Gillaspie would get Beckham home on a single to right. Abreu would hit home run #18 with Gillaspie on board. Dunn would connect a double to right but would be left stranded at the close of the inning. *Score, Sox – 5 and Tigers – 2.

Top of the Sixth inning would add two more for Detroit and the first of the pitching changes for the Sox, Victor Martinez would smack a homer to right with Caberea already on board thanks to a single to right. Noesi would depart and Downs would take over. *Score – Tigers 4 and Sox 5.

The bottom of the sixth would have the Sox adding another run thanks to De Aza scoring on an Eaton single. De Aza had reached earlier on a bunt single and a throwing error. Corey Knebel would take over in the Detroit mound office. Score at the close would have Chicago increasing their lead by a score of 6 – 4

Innings seven and eight would see the pitching changes for both sides as, Petricka and Putnam would both have a stint on the mound along with, Ian Krol and Even Reed for the Tigers.

Belisario would come in to close and save the game for the Sox, the Tigers would only mange to add just one more run when, Austin Jackson would score on a Alex Avila double. Jackson had reached on his own double.

*Final Score White Sox – 6 and Tigers – 5.

Tuesday night game has been rained out. Wednesday’s game will see John Danks against Justin Verlander.
