Padres took the first game in the series 4 – 2
Things were all quiet til the top of the third inning when Cameron Maybin hit a home run to left. *Score at close of the inning Padres – 1 and the Sox – 0
Chicago tied it up in the bottom of the fourth inning when Conor Gillaspie reached on an infield single, Adam Dunn walked moving Gillaspie to second. Alexei Ramirez flied out to center moving Gillaspie to third, who crossed home plate on a wild pitch by Kennedy. *Score at the close of the inning was Padres and Sox tired at 1
San Diego took the lead when Rene Rivera scored on a Danks wild pitch, Padres – 2 and the Sox – 1
The last of the scoring came in the top of the eighth inning when Yonder Alonso hit a home run to right with Will Venable who had come in to run for Tommy Medica.

Padres took the lead at the top of the second when, Alonso walked, Venable’s double scored Alonso from first. Maybin grounded into a fielder’s choice, he was safe but Venable was out at home. Chris Denorfia came in to run for Maybin and later scored on a Rivera double. *Score at the close of inning was San Diego – 2 and the Sox – 0
The Sox answered back in the bottom of the second when Ramirez and Paul Konerko both reached the pond with singles. Alejandro De Aza hit into a double play but Ramirez was able to score. *Score at the close was Sox – 1 and San Diego – 2
San Diego added another run at the top of the third when Seth Smith scored on a Venable single, giving the Padres a 3 to 1 lead.
Top of the fifth inning saw the Sox add another run when, Adam Eaton who reached on an error was able to cross home plate when, on a Dayan Viciedo double, which closed the score to 3 to 2 in favor of the Padres.
The top of the sixth inning saw the final run cross home for the Padres when Venable who had reached on a double to right, made it home on a sacrifice fly from the bat of Alexei Amarista. *Final Score White Sox – 2 and the Padres – 4
Chris Sale against Eric Stults
It would turn out to be a magic day for Chris Sale who would throw a 2 hitter. It would turn out to be his sixth complete game on only 100 pitches.
Konerko opened the scoring with a home run to left measuring 370 feet. *Score at close, White Sox – 1 and Padres – 0
One of the two hits that the Padres could manage was a Chase Headley home run to left which tied up the score at 1 a piece at the end of the top half of the fifth. Tyler Flowers would answer that home run with one of his own in the bottom of the inning taking the lead for the Sox 2 to 1 by the time the fifth inning closed.
The Sox would add the final two runs when Viciedo and Ramirez would both score off a Konerko double to left.
Final Score was the Sox 4 and the Padres – 1
Chris Sale would strike out nine batter and lower his ERA to 1.59
