Game Three with Cleveland
It is the closing series at The Cell with Cleveland. It has been a tough series and with all the rain yesterday the outcome could have gone either way. The Sox are in sole position of second place only 5 games back of Detroit. Cleveland is in last place 7.5 games out of first.
The Indians will head for home to welcome the Colorado Rockies for a series in Cleveland, The Sox have a day off before the San Diego Padres come for a three game visit. Then the a road trip to the west coast.
Hector Noesi (ERA 6.75) is on the mound for the Sox against T.J House (ERA 6.43)
The line up for today was : Adam Eaton, Gordon Beckham, Conor Gillaspie,Dayan Viciedo, Adam Dunn, Alexei Ramirez, Tyler Flowers, Marcus Semien, Moises Sierra
Top of the second inning saw the Indians get on the board when, Jason Giambi hit a home run to right. Cleveland – 1 and Sox – 0
It took waiting til the bottom of the fourth for the Sox to get a hit registered when Beckham got a single to center. Beckham moved to second on a single by Viciedo. Dunn grounded out to short to close that inning.
It would be the bottom of the seventh inning before the Sox would finally get on the board. Dunn started the inning with a single to right, Ramirez also had a single to right but got thrown out trying to steal second,moving Dunn to third. A Semien single to center got Dunn home to tie the score at 1 all.
Top of the eighth inning saw a pitching change for Chicago as Hector Noesi who had a great game turn mound duties over to Javy Guerra. Bottom of the inning also saw a change for Cleveland when Scott Atchison took over on the mound. Beckham was gifted a walk, Gillaspie’s single moved Beckham to third. Viciedo walked to load the pond. A sacrifice fly to left, helped Beckham get home for a 2 – 1 White Sox lead. Bryan Shaw took over on the mound for the Indians. Ramirez closed the inning when he hit into a fielder’s choice to third.
The top of the ninth saw Cleveland tie up the game when, Brantley starting things reaching on an infield single to short, Kipnis grounding to first moved Brantley over to second, Giambi was given a free pass to first, Gomes single to right brought Brantley home to tied up the score at 2 apiece.
It would take the bottom of the ninth for the Sox to mount one final fight back to win the game, Flowers was safe on first after a throwing error by Aviles, Leury Garcia came in to pitch run for Flowers, Garcia then went on to safely steal second and reach third on a Semien fly out to right. Sierra hit the game winning single to right to get Garcia home for the winning run.
The White Sox take the series 3 – 0 with the final score 3 – 2 in the Sox favor.
