Welcome to Kansas City – First of Three Games
We are in the home stretch of the nine game road trip and our last stop in a three game series in Kansas City at Kauffman Stadium. Scott Carroll is in the office today for the Sox, and for the Royals is Jason Vargas
Jose Abreu is on the 15 day Disabled List, had an MRI and there was no structural damage found. Only inflammation and he will be in a moon boot for a few days and have another check up once they are home in Chicago.
The line up for today’s game: Adam Eaton, Gordon Beckham, Alexei Ramirez, Adam Dunn, Paul Konerko, Dayan Viciedo, Tyler Flowers, Moises Sierra, Marcus Semien.The boys are in their black jersey’s with grey pants.
The bottom of the first inning and the Royals got things started with Norichika Aoki getting a single to center, Alcides Escobar reaches on another single moving Aoki to third. Eric Hosmer’s double to right got Aoki and Escobar home making the score 2 – 0. Billy Butler hit a single to center which got Hosmer across the plate for a 3 – 0 lead. Alex Gordon was gifted a walk, Lorenzo Cain’s single to center got Butler and Gordon across the plate taking the score to 5 – 0.
Top of the second inning Adam Dunn and Dayan Viciedo both reached on singles, Tyler Flowers hit into a fielder’s choice getting Dunn to third. Moises Sierra strike out to close the Sox half of the inning.
The third inning opens for the White Sox with Marcus Semien getting a single to center, top of the order bring Eaton to the plate, who reaches on a bunt but they got Semien at second, Eaton to second on a Beckham walk, Alexei Ramirez hits a long ball to left, getting the Sox back in this game only two runs down, Konerko closes the inning with a fly out to right. *Score Royals – 5 and Sox – 3.
The only activity for the Royals in the bottom of the third was Johnny Giavotella being hit by a pitch and thrown out trying to steal second.
The Sox opened the top of the fourth inning with a home run by Viciedo taking the score to 5 – 4 still in the Royals favor. Flowers Sierra and Semien all struck out to close the inning.
Kansas City opened their half of the fourth inning when Escobar reached second by way of an infield single and a stolen base . Hosmer hit a single to right to get Escobar across the plate taking the score to 6 – 4 still in the Royals favor. Salvador Perez hit into a fielder’s choice to second to close the inning.
Eaton reaches with a single to open the top of the fifth inning, Beckham tried to turn a single into a double but was tagged at second, Ramirez grounded out to first which allowed Eaton to score, getting the Sox within a run at 6 – 5. Sox take the lead 7 – 6 on a Konerko home run to center with Dunn on base by way of a walk.
Things got quiet til the top of the ninth when Matt Lindstrom came in to close things out for the Sox but rolled his ankle and departed the game, Scott Downs took over on the mound for him, Aoki reached on a single and Escobar had hit a sacrifice to the pitcher but was safe when Lindstrom rolled his ankle. Hosmer struck out and Jake Petricka came in to the game, Dyson got picked off and caught trying to steal third, Butler closed the game grounding to second.
Final Score – Kansas City 6 and the Chicago White Sox 7
